The Congress of the People (COPE) will be contesting elections at National and Provincial level for the third time since 2009. The party was formed in 2008 after several high profile political leaders broke away from the ruling ANC party.

The party leader is Mosiuoa Lekota.

The party contested in the 2009 and 2014 elections

In the 2009 national elections the party got 1 311 027 votes, securing 30 seats in the National Assembly. In 2014 the party got a total of 123 235 votes, which gave it 3 seats.

In the Provincial elections in 2009 the party got 9 seats in the Eastern Cape, 4 seats on Free State, 6 seats in Gauteng, 1 seat in KwaZulu-Natal, 4 seats in Limpopo, 1 seat in Mpumalanga, 3 seats in North West, 5 seats in Northern Cape and 3 seats in the Western Cape.
