Reading Time: < 1 minute

Party abbreviation: ARU

In the 2019 Elections, African Renaissance Unity (ARU) will be contesting polls in both the National and Provincial elections. The party will be competing in the Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo Provincial elections.

ARU was founded in 2018 by His Majesty King Bryce Mthimkhulu III. King Mthimkhulu is still the leader of the party.

The party’s election manifesto was unavailable at the time of publication.

In 2016, the KZN Provincial Government and the department of Co-Operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, stopped King Mthimkhulu from calling himself the King of AmaHlubi. Mthimkhulu was accused of trying to benefit financially from the title, including a failed attempt to claim billions of rands from the British government as compensation for the colonial destruction of his “kingdom.” Then acting Judge M Moneymore of the Pietermaritzburg High Court issued an interdict against Mthimkhulu. All charges against the King were dropped in January 2018 by the same court.
