With five days left until South Africans head to the polls, Congress of South African Trade Unions is urging people to use their vote to elect a party that they believe will fight for workers’ rights.

The labour federation’s General Secretary, Bheki Ntshalintshali, was speaking after May Day events on Wednesday.

Ntshalintshali says Cosatu will work to force government to push a new agenda after the results of the elections are finalized.

“We encourage people to vote, because if you are demoralized and are not voting, it means the government of the day will be elected by the few. We have to look to the resolutions and manifestos of the political party and urge the question of being implemented. Our battle will start after the 8th of May, going back to the government and saying you have to implement these issues. We will protest things and go on strike, we will have to force government and make things happen.”
