Several roads in the Boksburg and Germiston areas in Ekhuruleni have been blocked off to traffic due to protest action by residents of the Goodhope informal settlement.

Protestors are also stoning passing cars from the train bridge on Stanley and 9th roads.

The protest was sparked after the residents were stopped from illegally invading a plot of land in Delmore near Boksburg.

Ekurhuleni Metro Police spokesperson Willfred Kasago says: “They have barricaded lower Boksburg and 9th, Linkfield and Jones, 9th and Stanley in Primrose as well as the intersection of Simon, Decker and lower Boksburg in Elsburg which is the Germiston area.”

“Some protestors are throwing rocks from the train bridge and motorists must avoid those areas,” says Kasago.
