EFF vows to vote with DA in Nelson Mandela Bay

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has vowed to vote with the Democratic Alliance (DA)-led coalition government on the no confidence motions against Nelson Mandela Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip and speaker, Jonathan Lawack in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.

The motions, proposed by the Patriotic Alliance and United Democratic Movement (UDM) respectively, are expected to be debated on Thursday morning. An opposition bloc led by the African National Congress (ANC) would need the votes of the six EFF councillors to defeat the DA-led coalition running the Metro.

However, EFF Eastern Cape provincial co-ordinator, Yazini Tetyana, says this won’t happen.

“Our position is clear, one, is that we are not going to allow the ANC to take power in the metro through the back door. They must go back to the elections in the next LGE and campaign and win the metro. At this point in time, we are going to support Trollip and the DA even though we have no coalition with them but we believe that with them it’s better the metro under their hands than to have the ANC running this metro,” says Tetyana.
