Eastern Cape police have issued a new warning to all those involved in mob justice related killings.

This comes after the latest incident, where a 24-year-old man was killed, allegedly by residents of Mandela Park near Mthatha.

It is alleged the man was beaten to death by the community after he was caught trying to rape a 49-year-old woman.

Police spokesperson Mzukisi Fatyela says they are investigating a case of murder.

“The information we have gathered is that after he went to the house of the woman he wanted to rape, a group of people from Mandela Park came and assaulted the man to death. Now a case of murder has been opened, no arrests have been made. But we are following all the information that might lead to those who killed the man. Let me again strongly condemn this taking of the law to the hands of the community.”
