Eastern Cape Premier Mabuyane to self-isolate amid COVID-19 scare

Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane will quarantine after it had been discovered that a member of his core staff member had tested positive for COVID-19.

Mabuyane will self-isolate from his home, but will continue to actively lead the Eastern Cape Provincial Government, the implementation of the provinces COVID-19 containment and mitigation strategy.

The core-staff member, who had tested positive for the coronavirus is also self-isolating from his home.

Mabuyane is also expected to do a second COVID-19 test whilst quarantining.

In a statement, the premier revealed that all public activities for the premier have been cancelled.

“All the public activities of the premier, including the weekly media briefing scheduled for Sunday, 31 May 2020, to update the people of our province about the status of the implementation of the COVID-19 containment and mitigation strategy; the school reopening monitoring visit to ensure schools are implementing COVID-19 prevention measures; monitoring of the payment of social grants in line with the directives of the provincial Executive Council and visits to manufacturing plants in the economic hubs of the province are now cancelled,” reads the statement.
