Eastern Cape MEC for Education Mandla Makupula has passed away after a long illness.
Makupula died at an East London hospital, after serving in the post for eight years.
He had been a member of the provincial legislature since 1999, and before that he served on several structures in the ANC.
The Eastern Cape Premier’s spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo says, “The Eastern Cape Premier Mr Phumulo Masualle sends heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Education MEC Mr Mandla Makupula who passed away in the early hours of today after a long illness. Details about the funeral arrangements are to follow. He is one of the MECs who served the portfolio with commitment and also served the people of the Eastern Cape with integrity.”
