Eastern Cape counting leads the way

Counting is underway in the 2019 South African national and provincial elections and the Eastern Cape tops the list of completed voting districts, having finished almost six out of every ten stations they need to count.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Almost 46 000 votes have been counted in the Eastern Cape, with 278 out of a possible 4791 districts sending their count to the results center in Tshwane at around 02:00 on Thursday morning.

Nationally, the total of voting districts counted is approaching 700, leaving more than 22 000 still outstanding before a final result will be available.

More than 26 million South Africans were registered to vote in this year’s poll. With three percent of the votes counted, turnout is at around 61%.
