Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula says Southern African Development Community has an early warning system in place for quick intervention if the situation deteriorates in Lesotho.

She was speaking on the side-lines of the Ministerial meeting of the SADC Troika on Politics, Defence and Security under way in Angola.

The meeting was called to discuss the political situation in the region, with specific focus on Lesotho and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

A SADC force led by South Africa carried out a military intervention in Lesotho in 1998.

Minister Mapisa-Nqakula says despite reports of renewed instability, Lesotho is better than a few years ago.
