The Eastern Cape has had a tumultuous year with several lows and highs. Substandard infrastructure and the lack of basic services are seen as barriers to quality education in the province.

The Eastern Cape has long been identified as the worst peforming province in education.

Speaking on Morning Live the province’s premier, Phumulo Masualle says they have made significant strides in improving infrastructure.

He says the major problems lie in the rural areas but they are also working hard to ensure that issues are attended to.

While the health sector has also been put under administration, political instability and factionalism in the major cities and metros have also been in the spotlight leading to violent protests.
