Eastern Cape Police are appealing for leads after a woman and three men were shot dead execution-style in an abandoned house next to a railway line in Mthatha.

The bodies were found Thursday morning.

Now residents live in fear following the gruesome discovery. They want the abandoned houses demolished, saying these buildings are a den for criminals.

“I was outside and I went inside the house and heard gunshots in a nearby house. I went outside again and I went up the bush and there were people who asked me what happened,” says an eye witness.

“These people stay up here. They smoke drugs, go to town and make all sorts of problem. These houses are occupied by these people. These are the old houses owned by railway and illegal people occupy these houses. We often see cases of people getting robbed and these people hide here,” says a resident Simlindile Nkobo.

The motive for the killings is being investigated.

It is alleged the deceased were shot dead execution style, at close range. The bodies were discovered in the house behind me. The police found 10 cartridges on the scene. A small bag of drugs was also found.

Police spokesperson, Dineo Koena says: “Police are investigating a case of killing of four people one woman around the age of 30 and three men around the same age. We picked up 10 cartridges and we are investigating a case of murder”.
