Eastern Cape Health Department has raised concerns about the continued attacks on emergency services staff in Port Elizabeth, after two paramedics were attacked and injured while attending to a call in Missionvale.

Department spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo, says the incidents are compromising service delivery.

Kupelo says, “We will have now to appeal to police to escort us whenever there’s a call. That will result in delays in emergency cases. Port Elizabeth is really now putting us under pressure and causing delays in service delivery. These attacks have been continuing and continuing. We condemn the act and we appeal to members of the community, church leaders, politicians and all stakeholders in the area to work together and stop these barbaric acts.”
