The house of an African National Congress (ANC) councillor from Mbizana in the Eastern Cape was torched during Friday night. Councillor Nokhanya Dayimani of ward 23 and her family escaped unhurt. It is believed that a group of people surrounded the house at midnight before it was set alight.

The councillor has been the target of several incidents, allegedly by unhappy community members who are up in in arms about slow pace of development.

They have been demanding RDP houses, water and an access road in the village. The police are investigating a case of arson.
