Durban police officer killed in alleged drive-by-shooting

Police are investigating a case of murder after an off-duty Durban Metro police officer was gunned down in an alleged drive-by shooting on the R102, between Canelands and Verulam, north of Durban.

According to emergency services who responded to the incident, the officer sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

Durban Metro Police spokesperson Parboo Sewpersad says forensic teams have been working through the night.

Sewpersad says, “I can confirm that the Durban metro police has responded to an incident that involves an off duty policeman from metro police which is based at the Durban offices. It is alleged that it was a drive-by shooting, the policeman has passed on.  The scene was active till late last night with forensics.”
