The eShowe Regional Court is set to sentence a businessman found to have been behind the attack of his former employee in 2014.

Last month, Trevor Mellis was found guilty of the conspiracy to commit murder and the attempted murder of Skhumbuzo Dumisa, who was severely attacked and left for dead at Rutlege Park Dam in eShowe on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast.

The hitman that Mellis had hired to kill Dumisa is currently serving a 10 year sentence.

Dumisa’s left-arm was amputated following the attack.

Before the attack, Dumisa had won a labour dispute against Mellis at the CCMA which resolved that the employer pay him R110 000.

The court found that Mellis hired the hitman, Mduduzi Zikhali to kill Dumisa.

In court, Zikhali revealed that he shot and stabbed Dumisa at the behest of Mellis because he couldn’t afford to pay him his monetary arbitration award adjudicated by the CCMA.
