Reading Time: 2 minutes

The community of Verulam north of Durban has reacted strongly to allegations that a man has been raping his ten year old stepdaughter for the last five years. Reaction Unit SA was called out to the home last night, after community members allegedly beat up the man and kicked him out of his house.

Operations Manager Vinodh Singh says a neighbour had discovered condoms, sex toys and pornographic videos in the suspect’s home. Upon speaking to the young child, she learned details about alleged abuse and rape. Singh explains what he saw when he arrived at the scene.

“Upon our arrival at the scene there was a large crown consisting of men and women, who were in a process of assaulting an Indian male, in his 40s. They believed that he had allegedly been raping his daughter over a period of five years.” Singh says.

“The community became suspicious when they noticed the child being assaulted on several occasions. The house was blocked up the child was not admitted in school, a resident was assisting the child in cleaning the house and she found used condoms, that’s when she began questioning the child in regards to what the condoms were used for and the child broke down and explained everything to her.”
