Double digit increase not likely: Analyst

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Labour analyst, Andrew Levy, says a double-digit wage increase is not likely, as the bus strike enters its third day.

Workers are demanding a 12% wage increase while the employer is offering 7%.

Levy says that the VAT increase is not a strong enough reason for the workers to demand a double-digit wage increase.

“VAT has gone up by 1% for everyone but that does not mean it automatically doubles the cost of living for you, it doesn’t.  Everyone is getting squeezed by inflation, particularly people who earn less, so whilst one understands that people want to earn more they won’t in my view succeed with 12%.”
