‘Doom Prophet’ back in court for sentencing

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Sentencing proceedings for the self-proclaimed prophet found guilty of assault for spraying congregants with the Doom insecticide, will resume in the Mookgophong Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo on Tuesday.

Last week Lethebo Rabalago’s defence called three witnesses in mitigation of sentence, and the state called a witness in aggravation of sentence. It is not yet clear if the court will hear closing arguments in the aggravation and mitigation of sentence.

Magistrate Frans Mahodi has stressed that he wants the case to be finalised.

Rabalago testified for the first time last week and asked for leniency and indicated that he would be able to afford a
R 5 000 fine.

He also asked for forgiveness from his victims and testified that he has not sprayed anyone with the insecticide since he was served with a high court order in May 2017.
