Disaster Management remains on high alert in C Town

Cape Town Disaster Management says it will remain on high alert ahead of expected heavy rain Monday as well as later this week.

The Cape Town Weather Office says an incoming cold front will bring heavy showers over mountainous areas and could cause localised flooding.

Disaster Management spokesperson, Mandy Thomas says its Flooding and Storms Readiness Task Team has assessed vulnerable areas like informal settlements and dwellings near bodies of water.

“We do have our various services that have done assessments. With our current drought situation, our rivers are not full, so we are not particularly worried about them being overly-flooded, but we will monitor. Cleaning operations such as storm water drains took place so that with the expected heavy downpour, we don’t expect too much formal flooding.”
