The Disabled People of South Africa group (DPSA) is calling on the Northern Cape Education Department to give equal opportunities to people living with disabilities.

The group says people living with disabilities are being overlooked when it comes to job opportunities.

They say this is despite the equity policy which demands that companies need to have at least 7% of people with disabilities.

The group was picketing at the department’s district offices in Upington where it handed over a memorandum of demands.

DPSA’s chaiperson in Upington, Yolanda Engelsman-Malatsi says people with disabilities apply with no success.

“They keep on saying people with disabilities need to apply for these positions so that they can reach 7% but unfortunately they did that with no success. Inclusive education is a reality, it’s a policy but there is no political will to implement it”.
