Platinum mining giant, Anglo Platinum, says it regards development as a priority and will continue assisting the mining communities.
Anglo Platinum spokesperson Mpumi Sithole was speaking to the SABC during the hand over of R175 million to the Mapela community on Thursday.
In the past, the Mapela community was up in arms accusing Anglo Platinum of not adhering to its operating license.
Sithole says the money comes from the mines operations.
He says, “We have got one of our biggest mines within the area, which is Mogalakwena and its part of the issues that are coming from the past that were supposed to be sorted out between the community and the mine.”
“One of the agreements as part of the framework of the governance structure with the community is that they form a holding company,” adds Sithole.
