De Lille wants fair chance to clear her name

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Cape Town mayor, Patricia de Lille says she wants an opportunity to clear her name in a fair process.

De Lille has accused the Democratic Alliance (DA) of reaching a point of desperation in trying to get rid of her.

This is after the DA laid fresh charges of corruption and bribery against her at the Cape Town Central Police Station this weekend.

The DA wants allegations, that De Lille solicited a R5 million bribe from a Van der Bijlpark businessman in 2012, investigated by the police.

Speaking on AM Live De Lille says, “I want to state my case in an open court of law. I am not going to be like the DA who wants to taint my reputation and try and give me a trial by the media and leaking all of these things to the media. I will wait for my day in court. I am being found guilty without a trial. The DA is just hell-bent on this without giving me my right. I am not married to any position or to any party; if the party doesn’t want me then they are entitled to that. I am only saying that I have got a right to protect my own integrity.”
