De Lille wants clarity on Bowman’s report

Outgoing Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille has instructed her lawyers to write to the law firm, Bowman’s to seek clarity about their report.

The report, which was commissioned by the city, allegedly implicates her in covering up corruption relating to the tender for the MyCity bus contract.

The report recommends that the council take disciplinary action against her. In a tweet De Lille says she has received two conflicting reports from the law firm. She says one of them finds her guilty for allegedly putting undue influence on the city manager while the other exonerates her from this.

The forensic investigation report was earlier this week leaked to the media after it was handed out to the Councillors to prepare for Thursday’s council meeting.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance (DA) says its reaction will be guided by the scheduled council meeting’s outcome.

“A report will be served before council tomorrow and we will all have an indication of what the full report is and I think it’s all fair that we let the council process be underway tomorrow and our steps will be guided by what council does with the report that it will adopt or whatever it decides to do with it,” says DA spokesperson, Solly Malatsi.
