De Lille labels DA desperate to get rid of her

Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille has accused the Democratic Alliance (DA) of reaching a point of desperation in trying to get rid of her.

This after the DA laid fresh charges of corruption and bribery against her at the Cape Town Central Police Station this weekend.

The DA wants allegations that De Lille solicited a R5 million bribe from a Van der Bijlpark businessman in 2012 investigated by the police.

Embattled De Lille is denying the allegations.

“I certainly reject and deny the allegations with the contempt they deserve… why is this man coming forward when the DA is charging me for other matters, why did he go to the DA first instead of going to the police, and also… he waited for more than five years… this seems to be the latest of a string of moves by the DA to taint my name by clutching at anything.”

Earlier, chairperson of the party Federal Council, James Selfe says they have to investigate if an affidavit has been provided.

“Our duty in terms of the Organised Crime Act is that when an allegation of that nature is brought to our attention, we are required to report that to the police, and so we did. Prior to doing that, we advised Patricia De Lille’s attorneys so that she’s in a position to both know about the allegations and to defend herself if necessary,” says Selfe.
