Maimane slams use of old SA flag

Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane has criticised the use of the old South African flag.

Last month images of the old flag were seen on social media during the black Monday protests.

Maimane addressed delegates at the Gauteng DA Congress in Midrand north of Johannesburg where John Moodey was re-elected the party’s provincial leader.

“That flag reminds us of a painful history that divided us. It is not in the interest of SA or the advancement of a reconciled SA that we must go around in public places and wave that flag. It undermines our goals and sets us looking backwards.”

“I want to build a country where South Africans are united behind this flag, the SA flag, a future for all South Africans, a non-racial South Africa so if you want to wave the old flag, vote for another party,” says Maimane.
