Danish fugitive found guilty of 38 charges in Bloem

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Danish national Peter Frederiksen has been found guilty of 38 charges in the Bloemfontein High Court.

He was facing a charge of conspiracy to murdering his wife, rape, production and possession of child pornography as well as the possession of illegal firearms.

The Danish fugitive was arrested in September 2015 after 21 female genitalia were seized from his house in Bloemfontein.

Charges related to that were however withdrawn. He has been in custody since his arrest.

Judge Johan Daffue took the better part of the day reading out his judgement.

Frederiksen appeared calm and relaxed throughout the proceedings.

The case has even attracted the attention of Danish media.

A handful of African National Congress women’s league members also attended the court proceedings.

Daffue described Frederiksen as an unreliable person. “I have considered the evidence I respect of the particular counts as mentioned and I have already arrived at a certain conclusion having stopped back for a moment and reconsidering what I have said. Bearing in mind the totality of evidence, I’m satisfied that the state had proved it’s case beyond reasonable doubt in respect of the counts mentioned. I’m satisfied that all state witnesses appeared before me made favourable impressions and gave credible evidence, having shown corroboration for child witness as as well as other witnesses and the accomplice, Mr. Mokebe. The accused on the other hand did not impress me at all.”

Judge Daffue has described Frederiksen as a fugitive from justice who fled his country.

Frederiksen has also been labelled as a man of low morals who would do anything to protect himself.
Judgment continues on Tuesday.
