The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it will submit an application to the Energy Department in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act to force the Minister Jeff Radebe to disclose the alleged agreement of an oil deal he purportedly signed with the government of South Sudan.

Weekend media reports allege that an R14.5 billion oil deal with the Sudanese government was signed in 2018.

The reports also alleged that Radebe led a team to South Sudan to pursue the deal.

DA Spokesperson Kevin Mileham says if the allegations are true it would be irresponsible of government not to have made this public.

Mileham says in such deals state-public consultation and engagement with various other stakeholders are necessary.
