DA resolves to do away with VAT increase

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has adopted a resolution to do away with the Value Added Tax (VAT) increase that was recently announced by the former Minister of Finance, Malusi Gigaba, during the 2018 budget speech in February.

The DA congress being held in Pretoria has also resolved that it will allow job seekers to opt out of the minimum wage by settling for a lesser salary.

The congress says the VAT increase will cripple the poor in South Africa, leading to more social ills and increasing incidents of crime.

The DA’s congress is currently adopting resolutions which it will offer to South Africans if it gets to win the 2019 national elections.

It says youth that has been unemployed for over a year and more will have the right to enter into any employment agreements with an employer. This in line with any conditions they are comfortable with.

The conference will also make an announcement on its resolution regarding Land Reform and Education.
