DA to lay charges against Koko

The Democratic Alliance (DA) will on Monday lay charges against the newly re-instated Eskom CEO Matshela Koko.

This follows a disciplinary hearing which cleared Koko of all charges relating to misconduct.

Earlier this year Koko was accused of awarding Eskom contracts, worth R1 billion, to Impulse International, a company allegedly linked to his stepdaughter.

It was reported that he was also allegedly involved in approving a R650 million loan from Eskom to Gupta-linked Tegeta.

The DA’s Natasha Mazzone says, “Koko was allegedly consulted in the appointment of the chairperson for his own hearing. The DA has continued fighting the capture of Eskom, the executive’s and management of Eskom are not serious about rooting out corruption; if they were Koko would not be allowed back at work at the utility.”
