DA, EFF case on Zuma legal costs continues

The hearing at the High Court in Pretoria on the DA’s application to review and set aside the agreement between the Presidency and former president Jacob Zuma to cover his legal costs resumes Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday, the DA and EFF lawyers concluded their arguments in the High Court.

The opposition parties filed court papers in March asking it to set aside a 2006 agreement the Presidency had signed over legal costs Zuma incurred for his criminal prosecution.

The DA is asking the court to compel former president Jacob Zuma to foot legal bill in his spy tape saga and the money laundering & racketeering cases.

DA argues that offences that Zuma allegedly committed were on his personal capacity.

Government has confirmed that it has already paid more than R15 million in Zuma’s legal fees.

EFF on the other hand is asking that when the court decides on this matter, Zuma’s lawyer Michael Hulley must also be held liable and must pay back the money he benefited.

The EFF also argues that the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA Act) was violated in appointing lawyers for Zuma. Zuma’s lawyer Thaban Masuku is expected to conclude his arguments on Wednesday.
