The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Vaal has condemned the violent stand-off outside Hoerskool Overvaal in Vereeniging on the Vaal.  Ten people have been arrested for public violence.

Police were forced to fire stun grenades to defuse the stand-off between the protesters and by-standers.

Earlier on Wednesday morning an altercation ensued between a parent and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members outside the school premises.

DA Vaal chairperson and Midvaal Mayor Bongani Baloyi has called for calm from both the parents and protesters.

“We call for the department of education to meet with the school and find an amicable solution as there should be no learner excluded from learning on the basis of the language that they speak. We will definitely engage the school to persuade them to ensure that all find understanding the importance of integration in South Africa.”
