The Democratic Alliance (DA) has condemned the latest wave of land invasions that took place in Alexandra, Johannesburg, over the weekend.

Five people have been arrested following the attempted invasion of vacant land in Waterfall, Midrand and Marlboro near Alexandra township, north of Johannesburg.

They broke down the fence to the private property and attempted to build shacks since Friday night.

DA Gauteng leader John Moody has called for swift action to be taken against those who are inciting land invasions.

“Apparently and allegedly inspired and spread on by Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters. We ask and plead with government to deal with these land invasions and this treat to the political stability and economic stability of our country effectively. And those who are perpetrating these crimes and inspiring and encouraging it, to be brought to book and let them face the full might of the law.”
