The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Southern Cape says opposition parties should not claim victory over a Hawks raid at the George Municipality, which is DA controlled.
The Hawks conducted a search and seizure operation at municipal offices, businesses and private homes amid allegations of illegal procurement processes and tender irregularities.
DA Regional Chairperson, Jaco Londt says the investigation was initiated by the party itself, in line with its zero tolerance of corruption.
Londt said, “It is the Democratic Alliance who initiated this process following a high-level DA panel investigation into the situation in George. This shows that we are serious about our brand of clean governance and that we are not afraid to act, even where it allegedly involves party members.
“We welcome the actions by the Hawks and now need to respect the process and allow the investigation to run its course,” added Londt.
