DA believes Gauteng govt was over charged for Esidimeni Hearings facility

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng says just over R800 000 was paid for the rental of the Emoyeni Conference Centre, used for the Esidimeni Arbitration Hearings. This is despite the company, Keliana Consulting charging government R8.4 million for the use of the facility over the 45 days of the hearing.

Keliana Consulting manages the Emoyeni Conference Centre on behalf of the provincial government. This has been revealed in a written response by Gauteng Infrastructure Development to the Democratic Alliance in the provincial legislature.

The DA believes Keliana grossly overcharged the Gauteng government.

“If there are any allegations that the service provider who is currently leasing Emoyeni facility, has charged exorbitant prices, we will challenge honourable Jack Bloom to make those allegations to suggest that the prices are exorbitant and constitute a rip off, and to single out only rental as the basis on which to make a comparison. It will be completely wrong and unfair,” says Infrastructure Development MEC Richard Mamabolo.
