Communication Workers’ Union (CWU), general-secretary Aubrey Tshabalala says pay TV giant MultiChoice‘s decision to dump ANN7 has a negative impact on staff of the 24-hour television news channel.

MultiChoice announced on Wednesday that it would not renew ANN7’s contract when it expires in August.

The CWU, which represents more than half the employees at the channel formerly owned by the controversial Guptas, says there’s anxiety among ANN7 employees.

Tshabalala says they’re concerned about employees’ job security…

“We’ve already tried to consult MultiChoice with regards to the decision that they have taken. We are going to speak to them before the end of this week. We are not impressed with the decision they have taken for various reasons.”

“They said in the own report that they didn’t find any irregularity. However, there was due diligence … having said all that we believe that if there’s any corruption it means that MultiChoice will have to reflect on itself.”
