CT defends spending R4.5 million on Christmas lights event

The City of Cape Town has defended its decision to spend R4.5 million on an event to switch on festive season lights.

A group calling itself “Stop The City of Cape Town” lashed out at the city and has complained that the tender for organising the event has been going to the same company for many years.

MMC for Community Safety in the City of Cape Town JP Smith says, “It’s a very old tradition in various forms it is now approaching its 50th anniversary and remember that all that money goes back into local job creation.”
