CSA appoints Kugandrie Govender as acting CEO

The Board of Cricket South Africa (CSA) has appointed Kugandrie Govender as acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the beleaguered federation.

She succeeds Jacques Faul who stepped down on Monday, a month before his contract would have expired.

Faul took up the position at the end of last year after the six-month suspension of Thabang Moroe pending the outcome of an investigation into alleged misconduct.

Govender has more than 23 years experience in the corporate sector and is the current Chief Commercial Officer at Cricket South Africa.

She said it’s important for CSA to improve its reputation both locally and internationally.

It’s a critical time for the organisation and crucial for key stakeholders to work together to improve the rating of cricket among those who love, support, and follow the sport.

On Saturday, CSA president Chris Nenzani, who has been at the helm of the embattled federation since February 2013, submitted a letter of resignation.

Nenzani resigned less than a month before he was due to step down at next month’s annual general meeting.

He served two three-year terms and his contract was supposed to expire last year, but he was asked to serve another year.

In his last 12 months as president, CSA has been embroiled in one controversy after the other – both on and off the field.

Meanwhile, addressing the media on Monday on matters relating to the second wave of the COVID-19 relief funding for Sport, Arts and Culture, Minister Nathi Mthethwa also spoke about his meeting with the hierarchy of Cricket South Africa.

He told CSA that racism in the sport will not be tolerated by government.
