Court relaxes McBride’s bail conditions

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Pretoria Magistrate’s Court has relaxed the bail conditions for Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Head Robert McBride, granting him permission to spend Christmas with one of his youngest daughters.

McBride had been denied access to some of his children who are on the witness list in his assault case brought by another daughter three months ago. He had asked the court to review the previously set bail conditions because of the festive season.

McBride faces a charge of child abuse with an alternative charge of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

McBride says he had merely admonished his daughter for her rebellious behaviour and had been concerned over her school marks.

He is currently on a R10 000 bail. The matter will heard in court again on the 18th of December.
