Cosatu vows to intensify state capture fight

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Labour federation Cosatu have vowed to intensify its fight against state capture in the first quarter of  2018. This will include a demand that all key state institutions be led by people with integrity.

Several state-owned entities including power utility Eskom, SAA and Prasa have recently been making headlines over reports of mal-administration which have led to revenue losses amounting to millions of rand.

Cosatu’s Deputy General Secretary Solly Phetoe says, “This also speaks to frequent cabinet reshuffles and a high turnover of senior managers in both government departments and SOE’s that have unfortunately done nothing to create stability and continuity. The latest reports show that since 2009, there have been about 12 cabinet reshuffles at national level and 216 directors general suspended or removed from 32 departments.”
