Reading Time: 2 minutes

The sixth edition of the COSAFA Women’s Cup is in full swing in Port Elizabeth.

The organising committee decided to bring the soccer to the people by having these games at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium and the Westbourne Oval.

It has paid out in dividends as thousands of people have been attending the games.

A vibe fit for 90 minutes. Besides the renowned Port Elizabeth wind, it has been an exciting first week of COSAFA soccer, filled with big scores and fancy footwork.

And the spectators are loving every second of it.

One supporter says, “I came all the way from Aliwal north, four hours away. I came here to support the girls.”

“Yes I am from here. The vibe is great. I came to support the girls, because they always support us. It is very exciting,” says another one.

Banyana started their campaign off well by beating Madagascar in their opening game. This is just one step closer to tasting their fourth COSAFA Cup title.

The fans are ecstatic to see these talented females fight it out to the finish.

“The standard of soccer is great. The girls are really doing well. It’s good that so many people have come to show support. They always support us boy – so we must support these ladies,” adds a soccer fan.

A support wants tournaments for Port Elizabeth. “I think this is a great thing. We are the friendly city. They should bring more great tournaments here to Port Elizabeth.”

The semi-finals will kick off on the 20th, followed by the finals on the 22nd.
