The Limpopo African National Congress Veterans League has expressed concern at what it calls the failure of the governing party to serve the public. The league’s chairperson, Jacob Marule says that corruption has eroded the core values of the party.

Marule also says that people with dubious characters and history are appointed in government positions, compromising service delivery. He was speaking during a media briefing in Polokwane ahead of the ninth provincial elective conference at the weekend.

“We’re no longer doing what we were mandated to do… when you deviate you’re no longer doing what people voted for us; we’re going to 2019 elections, we are very concerned as the veterans, how are we going to do in those elections… we’re very concerned because somethings going to haunt us they’re going to remind us… you said previously you never did implement, so we should not be lying to people, we should be telling the truth at all times.”

Marule added that some delegates for the upcoming Limpopo ANC elective conference have been paid to vote for certain candidates. The league says vote buying is problematic within the party.

The top five positions are expected to be contested. Marule says that vote buying is corruption which has crept into the party.

“People have already been bought – that’s part of corruption it’s part of corruption… delegates are being given, promised, five thousand here… because they’re hungry they take it, so but the outcome of the conference is going to tell us what happened.”
