Companies from NMB Metro pack food parcels for Mandela Day

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Various companies from around the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro in the Eastern Cape have packed food parcels as part of Nelson Mandela’s 67 Minutes of action in Port Elizabeth. The Rise Against Hunger Campaign included packing and distribution of food baskets for the needy.

Organisers had aimed to pack 30 000 boxes.

Chief Mandla Mandela’s mother, Nolusapho Mandela says this is a worthy cause.

“To help even the young ones making sure that the young children have something on the table and … not only give back on the 18th July. Everyday should be a Mandela Day,” says Nolusapho Mandela.

Volunteers from the various companies say taking time off from their busy schedules is their way of helping the needy.

“I just think there is too many people that are out there in need and I think it is important as members of the community to give back to people who were actually packing today and the little packets we were packing it was exciting to see we that we fed a family of six people.”

“There’s a lot of people in need, lots of children in need and we are privileged. So, any opportunity to give back the less privileged is what we need to do,” some of the volunteers say.
