Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the Free State are expected to experience a significant drop in temperatures from Monday.
SA Weather Service Forecaster Kumsa Masizana says those conditions will continue into Tuesday, only clearing up from Wednesday.
“There’s a cut-off of low which has favourable upper air conditions, which will result in isolated to scattered thundershowers over the eastern parts of the country. But widespread over Gauteng, the western bushveld of the Limpopo province and the Mpumalanga province. Those areas will receive 80 percent widespread showers. We’re also expecting a drop in the temperatures. So for Gauteng province specifically we’re expecting temperatures to drop between 12 and 15 degrees.”
Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi has warned residents not to leave any heating devices on but unattended during the cold weather, to avoid fire incidents.
“Residents are urged to look after the heating devices as they try to warm themselves, during this wet and cold weather conditions. From our side at the City of Johannesburg Emergency Services, we will remain on high alert to make sure that we monitor all our 189 informal settlements since we know that these are the most vulnerable communities when we have wet and cold weather conditions like this one.”
