Gauteng residents are advised to keep warm this weekend as a cold front and rainy conditions are forecast.

The South African Weather Services says the province will experience a significant drop in temperatures averaging around 20 degrees Celcius with constant wet conditions.

Forecaster Wayne Venter says most parts of Gauteng should expect showers and temperatures in the lower 20s.

“We already have some showers over the West Rand that are moving towards Johannesburg and Pretoria and we still expect temperatures to be in the low 20s on Sunday.”

Johannesburg Emergency Services has urged residents to be extremely cautious when using heating appliances and driving on the roads during these cold and wet conditions.

EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says: “We just want to urge residents as they try to warm themselves to use their heating devices safely. From our side as emergency services, we will remain on high alert and monitor all our seven regions in the city for any eventuality that might occur.”
