Codeta calls off Khayelitsha taxi strike

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Taxi Association CODETA has called off its strike action against MyCiti buses operating in Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats, which was due to start on Wednesday.

A compromise with city officials was reached late Tuesday afternoon.

They had planned to block all bus operations from the area.

CODETA Secretary, Andile Khanyi says they are not happy with the City’s reluctance to give the association a 12 year contract to run the bus service in the area as per an initial agreement in 2014.

Khanyi says the disruption of bus services will not go ahead as planned following the new arrangement.

He says: “At this point in time I can tell you we have managed to sort it out. We are still going to have another meeting within 14 days. For now the strike has been called off.”
