Classes are expected to resume on Wednesday morning at the Wiseman Secondary School in Tshepisong, west of Johannesburg.

This follows last week’s incident in which a learner was allegedly caught selling dagga at the school, resulting in two-day disruption.

The learner has since been suspended.

Four people are suspected of supplying him with dagga. They reportedly arrived at the school with firearms and threatened the school principal, her staff and patrollers on Friday.

The principal and teachers then stayed away from the school until late Tuesday morning, resulting in no teaching or learning.

Gauteng Education spokesperson, Steve Mabona says things should get back to normal on wednesday. “We had to negotiate with the teachers, alley their fears, interact with law enforcement agencies so that their security is guaranteed.”

“We want to make sure that there’s visibility and there won’t be any threats around the teachers and the principal, but they know that if they see anything, they need to call the law enforcement agencies to come and assist,” says Mabona.
