The City of Cape Town on Wednesday adopted the R47,7 billion budget for the next financial year delivered by Mayor Patricia de Lille during a council meeting.

There were 139 votes in favour of the budget, with the DA, which is trying to oust De Lille, supporting it.

She delivered what she called a pro-poor budget with close to R3 billion allocated to a social package aimed at assisting the poor and the most vulnerable in the city.

“The budget is funded credible, and sustainable over the MTREF. In terms of section 18 of the Municipal Finance Management Act, some of the major capital spent planned for the 2018/19 financial year, is as follows; R4.1 billion for informal settlements, water and waste services. R1.8 billion for transport and urban development.”
