Officials from the City of Cape Town have met with representatives from the Social Security Agency South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) and the Social Development Department to discuss the smooth provision of disaster relief in the city.

The Department took over the provision of disaster relief from the city earlier 2018.

The agency says it wants to ensure the timeous distribution of services to affected communities during the coming winter months.

“We are greatly encouraged at the sequence of meetings between the city, the department and Sassa as we hash out a better operating model on how to dispense and deal with issues of disaster and social relief. The MEC has been very vocal on this matter, including for Sassa to get its house in order, especially as we head into the winter months which may see an uptake in flooding and fires in informal settlements,” said Provincial Department Spokesperson, Sihle Ngobese.
