Church leaders in KZN urge politicians to honour election promises

Church leaders in Kwa-Zulu Natal have urged politicians to honour their election promises ahead of the May 8 vote.

Speaking on the side-lines of the Diakonia Council of Churches gathering in Durban, men of the cloth say they want political leaders to address the social ills plaguing South African society.

Crucifixion and the cross is a symbolic gesture for Christians worldwide to renew their lives through the blood of the Son of Man.

In 2019 theme “Act for a Just Society” encourages the public to strengthen their resolve in peace-making.

Religious leaders have urged politicians to stay true to their words come election day.

Diakonia Council of Churches Reverent Musa Zondi says:”We have been faced with a scourge of inter party conflicts as well as conflicts within individual party politics.”

Politicians took turns carrying the cross from the Durban Exhibition Centre to the City Hall in a long solemn procession.

ANC PEC ‘s Weziwe Thusi says:”Let us all be peacemakers. Peace must start within yourself and then stretch to your neighbour and then the whole nation.”

DA leader Zwak ele Mncwango says:”We really calling on religious leaders to pray with us, especially as political leaders. We are living in a society where there are a lot of social ills and some of them are created by us as political leaders especially by those in government.”

IFP Spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa says:”We are praying for peace today ahead of these elections and hoping that the elections are free and fair without fear and the spirit of cooperation.”
